All objects, installations and acts dreamt up by Tristan Kruithof are realized under the banner of EXOOT. Tristan is responsible for the artistic and practical supervision of our performances at festivals and other events.

We perform with interactive objects and installations at festivals and art events. Beside that we are specialized in mobile DJ acts with a unique look.

We’ve been hunting for musical treasures for years now. Records from the early fifties and sixties, original vinyl pressings, of course!  The roots of contemporary pop music. We know how to throw a party and  how to provide an exciting musical backdrop.

AMI6  is one of our interactive old-timers,  ideally suited cut out for cultural festivals and events.

ANIMAL LOVE (NEW)

A robotic mechanical visual installation in two versions; a timer version for exhibitions and a remote-controlled version for mobile performance.

ANIMAL LOVE’ will be an interactive installation, stimulating humans to take a critical look at our relationship with nature and in particular the animal kingdom.
Meat and other food is produced on a large animal-unfriendly scale, oceans are emptied at too fast a rate, zoos are seen as entertainment. Just a few examples that illustrate the need to ask questions: How do we relate to the animal kingdom and nature? Where does the boundary lie? What is still respectful?
Under the name EXOOT, Tristan Kruithof develops installations and objects that depict an urgent theme; a combination of inventive mechanics, electronics and waste material.
EXOOT displays objects and installations in public space at art and technology-related festivals and events, exhibitions and art routes both indoors and outdoors at home and abroad.
In this project, skulls are the starting point. They symbolize death and evoke a powerful association. By speci􀀁cally choosing a carousel of skulls consisting of a horse, a cow and a pig, an arrow is shot through abuses in the meat industry.

Skulls are given new life. Using mostly waste material, I create a transparent mechanical installation, to which some humour is subtly added. This makes this work more accessible to a wider audience, both entertaining and socially critical.

In each new project, based on my fascination with movement and visual language, I look for interaction and the turning point at which the human brain experiences something as realistic.
What does it take to get someone's attention in a non-verbal way, to make them think, to surprise, startle and amaze them?

In my work, I strive for layering; not only in concept and idea, but also in, for example, smell, sound, presentation form, special e􀀂ects, degree of ‘caressability’, transparency (recognition of discarded material and imitable technique). How do I keep a viewer connected to a work for as long as possible?

variants
The installation can be exhibited on a timer, playing a sequence. It can also be combined with a mobile performance; a driver moves unobtrusively among the audience, controlling the direction and the theatrical situation via a wireless connection.

realisation
Independent of subsidy support, I develop new projects. The condition for proceeding to realisation is to agree in advance on performance and exhibition possibilities. If enough organisers have con􀀁dence in a new project and want to book it for an upcoming festival or event, I dare to invest time and money.
My projects can be called quite labour-intensive, as I am always reinventing a wheel and looking for quite complicated technical challenges. On average, I work full-time for 6 months on a new project. This takes place in the autumn, winter and spring months. During the summer season, try-outs take place, followed by exhibitions and performances. During the 􀀁rst season, the project crystallises. This requires an audience. Teething problems are 􀀁xed and the logistics around moving, building and dismantling are optimised.

ANIMAL LOVE is the follow up project of ANIMALTRONIEK 2022.

"A wink to robotics, a search for closeness’’

Animaltroniek is a layered audio-visual installation; radio-controlled with simple recognisable wooden 3D puzzles as a basis.

I am looking for a form in which robotics, mechanics and electronics are fused in a transparent way and a 'cuddly' creature with its own personality comes into being.

The installation interacts with the public. By means of three objects, I explore the electronic inventiveness and stretch the limits of mechanics.

The objects are far from lifelike, yet the technique is totally clear and transparent and nothing is hidden.

Yet the spectator reacts with a certain emotion. I am fascinated by how quickly the human brain accepts the world through recognition of image and movement, convinces itself and accepts something as realistic. Where is the turning point in the language of movement and imagery, that makes the human brain ‘switch over’ ?

Animaltroniek can be placed in a public space in two ways: a suspended version (AIR) and a mobile version among the audience (MOBILE).

BOOKINGS
There are two versions that can be booked; AIR or MOBILE. You can choose between 1, 2 or 3 objects.

Especially for multi-day exhibitions and art routes we have developed an automatic pilot.

EDUCATION

We have developed an educational programme for primary schools. We think it is important to enthuse children and bring them into contact with art and technology.

SCUBABIANCHI  forms a part of a series of interactive old-timers,  well-suited for cultural festivals and events.

An autobianchi magically transformed into an aquarium on four wheels filled with goldfish and a chap behind the steering wheel who seems a bit suspicious. SCUBABIANCHI plays with - and surprises - the audience.

HAPPY FISH

The goldfish that can be seen swimming in the ScubaBianchi are an intricate part of its charm. Some people may feel anxious about the well-being of the goldfish. I appreciate their concern, and I can ensure them that our goldfish are not showing any signs of stress or discomfort. If anything, they seem to glide through the water quite contentedly!

Mobile DJ's _EN

The smallest radio station of the Netherlands, provides festivals and events with fantastic vintage tunes. It creates a heady ambiance and gives nocturnal dancing a healthy shot in the arm.

Very suitable for big, festival-filled squares, dinners, weddings.. or you can use Radio Barkas to bridge a highly inconvenient gap in a festival line-up.

Radio Barkas: a mobile radio station that regularly makes a stop in places that need to be funked up. Vinyl only – back to the roots of contemporary pop music.

THE BARKAS COLLECTION

The Barkas Collection encompasses a very wide range of vinyl records – thousands of them – all collected and lovingly kept by Tristan Kruithof. For the last tweny years, Tristan has been hunting feverishly for those elusive gems - at flea markets, record fairs, online auction, charity shops…

In the collection you’ll find original pressings of records from the fifties and sixties- from  rock&roll to ska, surf, soul and mambo, from rhythm&blues to funk, exotic jazz, calypso and cumbia.
